Showcasing the things that make Palestine a unique and inspiring destination

Discover how hermits lived at St George Monastery in Wadi Quelt

Updated: Dec 30, 2018

The Greek Orthodox St. George Monastery is located in Wadi Qelt, on one of the best hiking trails in Palestine. It was built in the 6th Century and hangs precipitously on the edge of a cliff, a very impressive sight when approaching either on foot of by motorised transport (there is some walking involved with all options). Many believe this to be to location of Psalm 23's Valley of the Shadow.

When visiting, make sure you adhere to the dress standards: long trousers for men and long skirts and sleeves for women. No photography is allowed inside.

Wadi Quelt is the valley that runs between Ramallah and Jericho.
